Engagement photos reveal a couple 'brimming with love'

Reuters

Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton pose in one of two official engagement portraits, taken by photographer Mario Testino on Nov. 25.

The official engagement photos of Will and Kate have been released, and they provide a stark contrast to the images of a clearly shocked Prince Charles and Camilla caught in a student riot in London last week. Taken by the celebrated Mario Testino – the favorite photographer of Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana—the informal engagement shots were taken just after the announcement, and they reveal a couple “in their prime and brimming with love,” Testino said. There is speculation that their release was timed to divert attention from the unpleasantness surrounding Charles and Camilla—but with anarchist groups threatening to disrupt the royal nuptials, will security and cost issues darken Will and Kate’s big day? The Today Show's obsession with the "English Royal Family" is very disturbing. We fought a war of independence from that crown establishing an independent republic. Most Americans have no connection to England with most being immigrants from every other part of the globe.

Why does our national media continue to feed the fairy tale notion of monarchy to the public? Monarchies, the British monarchy in particular has been responsible for some of the most reprehensible acts against their own people and "conquered" peoples. These rich families, especially the English "royal" family continue to drain the coffers of governments without any real contributions to their countrymen's well-being. We need not support and follow these so called, "royals". Personality cults are not what we need. We should be focusing on more important or entertaining or educational events, information, and opinions.

This is nothing new Roberts! It is what it is, so we need to either sit back and enjoy their good luck and happiness or turn it off and make ours. I was there for P. Dianas and enjoyed it cause I was young and enjoyed all things romantic. Now Im middle aged and married 21 years, and you know what? Watching it did not hurt me a bit. I got a prince anyway! And yes, I'm saying that after 21 years. So...

Best to you Kate and William, I hope you say that after 21 years too! Castle, tiara or no! :)

It's pretty simple: If you're not interested, don't watch, read or comment.

While we here in the US may have fought a war for independence, we have an aristocracy right under our noses and the typical American voter seems unwilling to do anything about it.  We have an elite class of bankers who get away with financial crimes and who buy the elite class of politicians who don't have to live under the rules and laws the rest of us peasants must live under.  There was much media attention recently paid to the lavish weddings of presidential daughters.  While their fathers may have "earned" the money, it wasn't money earned in any truly productive endeavor.  They are basically freeloaders, living off the public trough and riding on "goodwill" or whatever the gullible electorate is willing to fork over to hear them blow hot air in their speeches.

So before we go mocking the British because of their royal class, we better examine ourselves here at home first.
