Vote: Who should perform at the royal wedding reception?

Reuters

This week it was reported that Kate and William asked Sir Paul McCartney to sing at their wedding reception.

"Paul McCartney is their number one choice to perform," said a source close to the couple, according to The Times of India. "They can't think of anyone more perfect to kick off proceedings."

While McCartney’s invitation has not yet been confirmed (quite like the rumor that ABBA will play), other fine musicians have come forward to offer their services. Sir Elton John, who played at Princess Diana’s 1997 funeral, reportedly showed interest, whereas British boy band Westlife publicly acknowledged their desire, saying “every artist in the world would sing at that wedding.”

Every artist? Not exactly.

Notorious Scottish rock band Primal Scream will not add their names to the short list, going so far as to condemn the royal wedding. “I hate the royal wedding, man,” said frontman Bobby Gillespie, who believes an opulent event is “disgusting” when people in the world are starving. “It's wrong, y'know?"

Kings of Leon, on the other hand, have a smarter tactic: The band is holding out for Prince Harry’s wedding.

“'Wills and Kate look like nice people, but Harry is the dude,” said drummer Nathan Followill. “His is the wedding we would most likely play. I'm sure Wills and Kate know what they are doing but Harry would definitely throw a Kings of Leon-style party."

Cancel all weddings, put all the dress makers, cake makers, carriage makers, ...etc, put them all out of work. No one eat until everyone does.

No, we'll never get everyone to do that. It may be better for every to spend as much as they can. Get everyone who can to go to work to supply the goods.

It's about time the royals spent a little of the taxes they've collected.

    And my votes for Paul.

Who should play at the wedding? Whoever the bride and groom want!

Whoever Prince William and Princess Kate want.

I'd opt for McCartney. And if Elton John wanted to perform, I think both can share the stage: To Sirs with Luv.

I think Duran Duran should make an appearance at the reception at least, and play Ordinary World.......Wills' mother loved that band and that song always reminded me of her, and it's from a Wedding album! Happy 29th birthday Kate (pick whoever YOU want to play at your wedding - it's your day - u r doing a fabulous job) Best wishes from Hazel's hill in the midwest USA - in between Middleton and Windsor, WI!!!

The entire reception should be approved by the young couple and whoever they want because its THEIR day and their special moments.

Being older than the young couple (and slightly more old fashoned) I would lean more to adding my wedding with a touch of yesterday and a peek at the future and tie the generations together. With that being said, my list of entertainers would include (titles omitted) Vera Lynn, Elton John, Il Divo, Mireille Mathieu, Andre Boccelli, and Celine Dion to name a few. But what I want doesn't matter - just what they want.

Elton John would be the perfect one to sing a song that he would write for all of mothers...."as I look down through the clouds at my young man and his bride............."

I wish them the very best.

Ahem, a little fact-checking is in order... WESTLIFE is an IRISH boy band, not BRITISH.

I agree with most of your suggestions Sawdusty1. Macca is my first choice and he can play for any audience, all ages. Elton John can do much the same. Il Divo is fantastic and I would pick them if either of the other two could not do it. Actually, I think I'd make two choices: one that played fast dance music (and for the couple and their young friends), along with a group like Il Divo who would sing the romantic songsthat could make butter melt in a fridge!

              Good luck Wills & Kate
