NBC's Peter Alexander reports that Kate Middleton has chosen her sister, Pippa, as her maid of honor and Prince Harry has chosen his brother, William, for his best man.
It’s no surprise, but now it's official: Prince William has asked his brother, Prince Harry, to serve as best man at his wedding. Kate’s sister, Pippa, will be the maid of honor. At 26, she will be one of the oldest royal bridesmaids ever.
Prince Harry will be responsible for organizing William’s bachelor party, and could even give the traditional best man's speech at the wedding, while one of Pippa’s main roles could be to make sure that Kate’s dress is perfectly displayed – no easy feat if Kate’s train measures as long as Diana’s at 25-feet long. As chief bridesmaid, she could also be expected to make sure that the younger bridesmaids and page boys behave themselves.
Best men in royal weddings are usually known as supporters, but in a break with tradition, Prince Harry was referred to as "best man" in the official announcement.
The royal couple-to-be also named a number of bridesmaids and page boys for the April 29 nuptials, including the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and Prince William’s first cousin, Lady Louise Windsor, who will be 8 years old at the time of the wedding. This will be the public’s first real look at Lady Louise, who has been largely kept out of public eye by her parents. She suffers from a rare condition, exotropia, which causes her eyes to squint.
NBC's Kier Simmons reports from London on a new set of comic books that feature Kate Middleton and Prince William. Plus, the latest addition to Kate Middleton's group of bridesmaids.
The youngest bridesmaid will be 3 years old at the time of the wedding. Others chosen include Margarita Armstrong-Jones, 8, the daughter of Viscount and Viscountess Linley; Eliza Lopes, the 3-year-old daughter of Harry Lopes and Camilla Parker Bowles' daughter, Laura; and Grace van Cutsem, 3, a godchild of William.
Page boys for the wedding will be William Lowther-Pinkerton, 10, the son of William's private secretary, and Tom Pettifer, 8, another of William's godchildren.
Officials said details about the bridesmaids' dresses and the page boys' uniforms will be made available on the wedding day.
