Should family and friends of the royal family (and hey, maybe Elton John?) start checking their mailboxes? On Thursday, TODAY's Peter Alexander reported – citing royal sources – that the invites are “heading out soon,” and now a St. James' Palace spokesperson confirmed to Usmagazine.com that roughly 1,800 invites have been mailed , which means we’re thisclose to seeing leaked shots of the invitation design.
"The invitations to the wedding have gone out," the rep told Us. "By now, Friday afternoon, I can confirm that they will have all gone out by now."
There has been no news of what to expect, but it will most likely resemble Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding invitation, but with Kate and William’s entwined initials.
Last month, it was reported that Europe’s royal families and sovereigns – who are given earlier warning than foreign heads of state and non-VIP guests – were notified of the upcoming nuptials via fax machine, which was ... adorable. The archaic mode of communication was supposedly chosen as an “efficient and polite way to inform people as quickly as possible” for “large-scale” events. While physical mail is still not as forward-thinking as e-mail, it’s still a step up from old-school faxes.
Prince William and Kate will partake in what may be their only public engagement before the wedding – a rescue boat dedication, which some royal watchers are calling Middleton's "christening" of her new role. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
