Prince William with Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key on a visit to Kapiti Island, New Zealand on Jan. 18, 2010. The prince's relaxed demeanor was highlighted by his wardrobe choice of sneakers and chinos.
It’s amazing what a ring will do for a woman. In just a few short months, Kate has gone from being Waity Katie, to style icon extraordinaire. Her every look is copied and sells out within days. But what about her husband-to-be, also known as the second in line to the throne? For a media willing to dissect each and every detail of Kate’s wardrobe – from earrings to stockings – the chattering classes are somewhat silent when it comes to William.
On Sunday, the prince was spotted wearing “trainers” – that’s sneakers, for Americans – at one of London’s most exclusive restaurants. Forget the navy-blue suit in which he so often appears - it was weekend wear all the way for the royal, who paired his gym shoes with a blue V-neck sweater, collared shirt and khaki trousers.
Together with his bride-to-be and her sister Pippa, the trio dined in one of Mosimann’s private dining rooms, according to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.
It wasn’t the first time that William appeared wearing sneakers in public. Last year, on a visit to New Zealand, the prince arrived at Kapiti Island with Prime Minister John Key, wearing his trusty Asics – seemingly the same ones he wore to lunch on Sunday.
No doubt his royal highness will be more formally dressed on April 29. The only unanswered question is what uniform he will choose.
Royal watchers were up in arms after the prince sported sneakers at a fancy lunch with fiancee Kate Middleton at a posh London restaurant. NBC's Anne Thompson reports.
